Renan Barao gets another chance, faces Douglas Silva de Andrade in Sao Paulo
Renan Barao isn’t done competing in the UFC just yet…
The former bantamweight king is now set to return to the featherweight division in Sao Paulo.
At this stage, it’s impossible to deny that Renan Barao (34-8) has had one hell of a fall from grace. The 32-year old 14-year pro had seemingly fought his last fight inside the Octagon against Luke Sanders in February… but that isn’t going to end up being the case.
Combate has reported that Barao will be getting another chance in the UFC and it will come at UFC Sao Paulo on November 16. He’ll be taking on the always entertaining, Douglas Silva de Andrade (25-3). The bout will be at featherweight.
For the former bantamweight champion in Barao, he has struggled with making weight and bounced between 145 and 135-pounds since he lost the title. The Natal, Rio Grande de Norte native is 2-7 in his last nine bouts starting with his title loss to TJ Dillashaw in May 2014.
Currently riding a four-fight losing streak, the most recent loss coming in the form of knockout, Barao hasn’t had his hand raised since September 2016 when he defeated Phillipe Nover. This was Barao’s second appearance at featherweight.
As for his fellow Brazilian and now opponent, Silva de Andrade, he is 3-3 inside the Octagon. His last time out saw him do battle with the rising contender, Petr Yan, at UFC 232 in December 2018. Yan would become the first man to finish Silva de Andrade with strikes.
Barao vs Silva de Andrade gives UFC Sao Paulo a total of eight fights as it currently stands.
