Your guide to the UFC 243 prelims

Read Time:3 Minute, 19 Second

UFC goes down under on October 5th for a massive PPV.

Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia will host the colossal event of UFC 243. The main event features a middleweight title unification bout between the current champion Robert Whittaker, and interim champion Israel Adesanya.

The main card starts at  10:00pm ET to be featured on ESPN+ PPV. The early prelims start on Fight Pass at 6:15pm ET, and switches over to ESPN for the prelims starting at 8:00pm ET.

Here is your guide to the prelims for UFC 243.

Nadia Kassem vs. Ji Yeon Kim (Flyweight)

Kassem is a young KO artist from Australia, so she will have the hometown crowd behind her in this fight.

In her last fight, she suffered her first professional loss to Montana De La Rosa. She will hope to bounce back in a big way against Kim as Kim is the taller fighter, and will have the reach advantage.

Kim is more experienced as a professional and has gone 2-2 in the UFC. Kassem will be looking for her first finish since being called up to the UFC, and Kim will hope to have a more impressive performance, as her 2 wins in the UFC have come via split decision.

Megan Anderson vs. Zarah Fairn Dos Santos (Featherweight)

Anderson is another hometown favorite from Australia.

She made a huge name for herself in Invicta FC, then made her UFC debut against Holly Holm where she lost that fight via decision. She has gone 1-2 in the UFC, with her only win coming from her opponent not being able to continue in a weird eye poke, from a head kick. Anderson will definitely be hungry to prove herself as she has yet to do so in the UFC.

Dos Santos is in an interesting situation as she makes her UFC debut after missing weight in her last fight. However, she’s on a 3-fight win streak. At 32, the KO artist will hope to prove that her power will follow her against a step up in competition.

This could be a fun stand up brawl between these two.

Yorgan De Castro vs. Justin Tafa (Heavyweight)

Heavyweight fights almost always excite with a finish looming in every strike. Both of these heavyweights are making their UFC debut, both are undefeated, and both will be looking to make a name for themselves.

De Castro made his way to the UFC through the pipeline of DWCS, by finishing his fight with leg kicks. Tafa is another Australian-born fighter, with very exciting potential. He has yet to see round 3 as a professional.

Either one of these fighters could find themselves in the heavyweight rankings in 2020. Oh, and although this is the guide to the prelims, let it be known that this fight got moved to the main card.

Callan Potter vs. Maki Pitolo (Welterweight)

Potter lost his UFC debut, and in short order. The fight ended less than a minute into the first round in a KO.

There is nowhere to go but up. Potter will hope for a bounce back performance in a big way in front of the home crowd. He has plenty of professional experience, and has finished all but one of his wins. He also has 10 career wins by submissions, and a number of KO finishes to his resume.

Pitolo came from DWCS, and exploded onto the scene to earn a contract. He dropped some “Coconut Bombz” and ended the fight early in round 1, with body shots from the clinch. The Hawaiian will look to make a similar splash in his UFC debut this weekend.
