Ronda Rousey on MMA return: ‘It’s no longer a priority in my life’
Ronda Rousey will forever be known as one of the greatest female fighters to ever do it.
The former Strikeforce and UFC bantamweight champion broke down barriers and paved the way for women’s MMA.
The 32-year-old famously made a liar out of Dana White who said, “women will never fight in the UFC.” Today they are visible on almost every card, even headlining shows and becoming some of the biggest stars in the sport.
Speaking on her YouTube channel ‘Rowdy’ said. “There’s not a day that goes by people aren’t telling me to fight.” However, the former champion appears content in retirement and says fighting has took a back seat. “It’s no longer a priority in my life. All the people that tell you, ‘Come on, fight again, do this again,’ they would never do that for me.”
Should She Come Back?
One part of me would love to see Rousey go again in the UFC.
The reality is she has only fell short against Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes. When they retire, people will consider both among the greatest fighters of all time. Rousey is extremely talented, and I have no doubt she can still beat the majority of fighters at 135lbs.
However, one look at her most recent comments tell you she’d be foolish to take another fight.
The desire is clearly gone, and returning right now would be extremely ill-advised. Any MMA comeback would stem from money, not from a desire to become the best again.
While money can motivate fighters, it shouldn’t drive a return from retirement. Especially for someone like Ronda Rousey, who has always fought with emotion, determination, and purpose.
As a massive star outside the sport, Rousey has plenty of ways to make money that don’t involve stepping back into a cage and getting punched in the face. Professional wrestling in the WWE will always be available, as will various movies roles.
After these latest comments, it’s time to accept that Ronda Rousey is done with fighting. Any comeback now would be for the wrong reasons and likely wouldn’t end well. We wish the UFC Hall Of Famer all the best in retirement and whatever she chooses to do next.
