Tessa Blanchard vs. Sami Callihan: The Significance
IMPACT Wrestling: Hard to Kill
This Sunday, January 10th, 2019 IMPACT Wrestling will be putting on Hard to Kill. We don’t talk about IMPACT much on The Scrap, but I needed to write about Hard to Kill. I have felt for a very long time that Impact is underrated, particularly when it comes to their PPV’s. However, there is one reason I believe you need to watch Hard to Kill this Sunday.
Sami Callihan vs. Tessa Blanchard
IMPACT World Champion will defend his Championship, against Tessa Blanchard. Yes, you heard me right, Tessa Blanchard. If you have not been keeping up on Impact, the Tessa vs. Sami storyline has been one of the best in wrestling. Intergender Wrestling is a touchy subject but this feud has been a perfect example of it being done right. The feud has spanned over nine months and has been one of Impact’s best storylines in recent memory. Sami has looked like a tough bad guy, and Tessa has looked just as tough. Callihan and OVE have not held back with Tessa, treating her like a male Superstar at times. You have to give Impact a lot of credit for making something so controversial their main story. The two have wrestled one time before. The match main event Slammiversary, the first intergender match to headline a Pay-Per-View. Since then Callihan has won the Impact World Championship, and Tessa wants it.
Witness the Milestone Moment
It goes without saying that if Blanchard wins she will be the first Women to win a (men’s) World Championship in a United States promotion. The significance of the match alone can not be overstated. A Women’s Wrestler competing for a World Championship is a massive milestone. Tessa is absolutely the right person for it too. As I mentioned I don’t think Impact can be given enough credit for this. This is something that is so revolutionary, and so brave from a business standpoint.
I don’t know what to expect out of this match, but I know you need to watch it.
IMPACT Hard to Kill is this Sunday, January 10th, airing on Fite TV.
