The future of CM Punk & The Elite needs to be addressed

Read Time:2 Minute, 0 Second

There’s a big shadow casting over AEW, and that shadow is CM Punk. The events of the AEW All Out brawl left the promotion in a very delicate spot. But over the following months, AEW was able to recover and things have slowly went back to normal. While things went back to normal, one thing is certain, the future of CM Punk and The Elite needs to be addressed…

The most recent reports about CM Punk indicate that he is willing to return to AEW. While that’s good news for all the CM Punk fans out there, it also puts on a lot of doubts on the future of The Elite (The Young Bucks & Kenny Omega) in the promotion they helped establish back in 2019.

Things are so complicated, not only because of the brawl, but because The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega are on their last year of their AEW contracts and have yet to renew their deals. Rumors about the future of The Elite intensify as months go by and as the return of Punk to AEW gets closer.

It’s Decision Time

In a perfect world, things between The Elite and CM Punk would be able to get fixed, especially considering the money all parties involved would be able to make if both sides decided to let things go and work in a program together. For many, this program could make a lot of money for AEW, especially with All In II taking place at the legendary Wembley Stadium. But it’s all wishful thinking… The most likely scenario is for Tony Khan to make a decision, CM Punk or The Elite?

There are arguments on both sides on who should stay in AEW and who should leave after what happened last year. For months, it felt like AEW and Tony Khan had chosen The Elite over Punk. However, the latest reports indicate that an actual decision was just postponed, and now the time to make a decision is upon Khan. This decision could have long term effects on AEW, for better and especially for worse.

What decision will Khan take? That’s the billion-dollar question. If he was able to keep all of them, that would be the best scenario. But considering the personalities involved on this sensitive subject, only time will tell…
