Wednesday Night Wars: AEW Dynamite Week 14 Review
The first episode of AEW Dynamite in 2020 was celebrated in Jacksonville, Florida at the daily’s place AMPHITHEATER.
The Jacksonville crowd was fantastic throughout the night. They had the perfect reaction for every segment and match throughout the episode.
Matches
The first match of the show was between Darby Allin and Cody (with Arn Anderson) in a rematch from their match at Fyter Fest. This match delivered and made several calls to their previous bout. Arn Anderson had a great role as Cody’s coach.
Riho defeated Baker, Rose and Shida for the AEW Women’s Championship. This match was intense and was the right direction for the women’s division. After the match, Nyla Rose attacked Riho. Next week Riho will face Kris Statlander.
Moxley defeated Baretta in an intense match. After the match we saw promos from Guevara, Moxley, and Jericho. Next week will find out Moxley’s answer to Jericho’s proposal to join The Inner Circle.
Guevara defeated Dustin Rhodes with help from Jake Hager in a fun match, with a lot of fun spots.
The Elite (Omega and The Young Bucks) defeated PAC and the Lucha Bros. This main event was freaking crazy and everybody involved were fantastic during this match. This match could be an early contender for match of the year of 2020.
Promos & Segments
The show started with a great video package about The Elite and how 2019 was not the year for them. 2020 is a clean sheet and a new beginning.
We saw several backstage segments with Jurassic Express, Private Party, Janela, Riho, and Baker that were really fun. The only negative could be Britt Baker’s promo, which was too fast, but it was interesting and had a point to it.
Guevara used cue cards during commercials and they were really entertaining. It was one of the highlights of the show.
The promo of the night was with no doubts came from MJF. In this amazing heel promo, MJF gave his stipulations to grant Cody a match. The stipulations were:
- Cody cannot touch MJF until Revolution.
- Cody will face Wardlow in a cage match.
- MJF will give 10 lashes to Cody on Live TV.
Rating
Overall this was one of the best episodes of Dynamite. AEW heard the heavy criticism the previous shows had, and the booking improved big time.
Solid promos across the board and the matches were fantastic. The match of the night was the crazy main event between The Elite vs. PAC & Lucha Bros.
Grade: A
