Who Should Dethrone Toni Storm?

Read Time:2 Minute, 1 Second

Toni Storm has been one of the major pillars of AEW’s recent success. Her reign as AEW Women’s World Champion has been fantastic. But, this also opens the debate around who should dethrone Toni Storm.

Beating Storm will cement that wrestler into the next level, and currently there are three major candidates to do so. Let’s dive in:

Willow Nightingale

Earlier this year, Willow renewed her contract with AEW for several years. She is without a doubt one of the most over wrestlers in the promotion owned by Tony Khan. Willow’s babyface charisma is so natural, and if pushed right, it could be a license to print money. AEW have secured Willow for the long term, but they need to push her to the moon, and soon. There’s no better way to do so that than with Willow becoming the next AEW Women’s World Champion.

Willow is the total package, and the most likely wrestler to be the one to dethrone Toni Storm. However, things could change, as wrestling is always an evolving business. Despite that, Willow needs to be a world champion in AEW sooner rather than later.

Kris Statlander

Kris Statlander’s rise in AEW has been incredible to witness. She went from being a regular on AEW Dark to becoming a pillar of the women’s division. In the past, AEW has made the mistake of pushing wrestlers who weren’t committed long-term and viewed the company as just a stepping stone. Statlander is a wrestler that feels like an AEW-Lifer and Tony Khan needs to take advantage of that.

Statlander is a wrestler AEW sometimes seems hesitant to fully get behind. But she’s ready for that next step in her progression.

Queen Aminata

When I used to cover AEW Dark: Elevation for the Wrestling Observer site, Queen Aminata was one of my favorite regulars. Every week, I found myself begging AEW to sign her. It took until 2024, but when they finally did, I couldn’t have been happier. From day one, Queen Aminata has had that rare ‘it’ factor few wrestlers possess. While she may be a long shot compared to Willow and Statlander, she’s still a compelling candidate.

Queen Aminata becoming world champion would be amazing. That said, a run as TBS Champion first could help elevate her and build momentum for a future push to the top of AEW’s women’s division.
