women's North American champion

Who will be the first NXT Women’s North American Champion?

Read Time:2 Minute, 30 Second

For the first time ever, NXT will emanate from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada this Saturday. At NXT Battleground, the inaugural NXT Women’s North American Champion will be crowned. The match is stacked with talent, and realistically every name in this match would be a fantastic choice. Unfortunately, however, there can only be one winner and one champion.

The Likely Contenders

I believe the most likely winners here are Sol Ruca and Fallon Henley.

If you are looking for a champion who has a pre-established feud that can continue for the belt, Fallon is the choice. She has recently had a program with Thea Hail, and I feel that those two reigniting that rivalry could be a perfect first feud for the title.

As far as Sol Ruca, she has every tool possible to carry this title as its inaugural champion. Her in-ring work is incredibly smooth, she has one of the best finishers in NXT, and the crowd loves her. She could not only hold that title well but could also have any number of compelling title defenses in the future.

Dark Horses

That being said I do believe this match has a couple of dark horses. I can 100% see a world where Jaida Parker becomes the first NXT Women’s North American Champion. She hasn’t even had a full calendar year on NXT at the time of this writing. However, she already has so many elements that you just can’t teach. Parker carries herself like she has been doing this for years and that confidence translates through the TV. She is also incredibly natural when she speaks. Honestly, it doesn’t even sound like she’s cutting a promo most of the time. Her authenticity and natural charisma are what make her promos so good.

You also can’t count out Kelani Jordan. Much like Jaida Parker, she is very fresh in the business. But, she would work wonders with this title. She has been a constant on NXT TV for several months. However, I feel she may need something to catapult her to that next level. Being the first Women’s North American Champion would be a massive deal, and it would elevate her greatly. The championship would give her direction and as an underdog babyface, she could have some incredibly compelling feuds.

Final Prediction

Ultimately, I do believe the winner will be Sol Ruca. Prior to her brutal knee injury, she was making her way up the card. I believe she was on her way to the main event mix… The main women’s title is currently wrapped up with Giulia’s imminent debut (potentially), so her winning this makes a ton of sense. There are no doubts that she would elevate the championship through incredible performances and memorable matches. It would also elevate her to that main event level, and potentially the NXT Women’s Championship down the road.

Let us know who you think will walk out of Las Vegas with the gold in the comments below.
