A future with no Roman Reigns in WWE
Roman Reigns has been the face of WWE for almost a decade. WWE has centered all their attention on making Reigns as the next big star, for better or worse.
This past weekend, Roman Reigns cut a promo that put the world on notice, stating his days as a wrestler could be over. He could very well be headed to Hollywood ,just like his cousin The Rock… It’s too early to speculate regarding Reigns’ future, but this creates an interesting debate regarding WWE and their plans for the future once he eventually leaves.
It’s fair to say there is no apparent heir to take the mantel of becoming the face of WWE right now. There hasn’t been a need to start pushing for one either, but it does show how short-sided WWE can be at times. This just another example of this.
There are some names that could potentially become a successor to Reigns. But newer superstars like Bron Breakker are not ready for something like that. Even Austin Theory, who is very young and was one of the names during the #SpeakingOut movement.
This once again exposes the failure of NXT as a pipeline to create new stars for WWE long term. Then again, this is more of an overall issue, than with just NXT and NXT UK.
WWE could go with the route of Bianca Belair as a potential successor, and she’s the best name for such difficult job. Great in the ring, charismatic, she’s the total package. Despite all the qualities, she still feels overshadowed at times by Charlotte Flair or Becky Lynch.
You could make a case that WWE doesn’t necessarily need a face of the promotion, especially when they think that their brand is above anything and anyone. As we know, Vince McMahon is an old school guy with some of his booking and promoting in WWE.
The next few years will certainly be interesting regarding Roman Reigns and his career. What do you think happens? Let us know in the comments below.
