Nikki Cross & Big Damo Aquire PROGRESS & DEFY Wrestling
A major change has taken place in the independent wrestling world.
Damian Mackle—better known to fans as Big Damo and formerly WWE’s Killian Dain—and his wife Nikki Cross have officially become the new co-owners of both PROGRESS Wrestling and DEFY Wrestling.
The announcement marks a significant turning point for two well-established promotions on opposite sides of the Atlantic. Both companies are now led by performers who built their reputations on the UK independent scene before rising to global prominence in WWE.
Return To The Scene That Built Them
Big Damo, who previously held multiple championships in PROGRESS Wrestling, described the move as a return to familiar ground. He emphasized the strength of the UK and Irish wrestling landscape and the promotion’s role in showcasing emerging talent.
He also acknowledged the work of outgoing leadership Martyn Best and Lee McAteer. Damo credited them with guiding PROGRESS through the challenges of the pandemic era and expanding its international reach through partnerships across Europe, Japan, and the United States.
Damo highlighted the current roster as one of the strongest in the company’s history. He pointed to champions such as Cara Noir, Luke Jacobs, Ethan Allen, and Alexxis Falcon, while also noting the presence of established names and rising prospects across the men’s and women’s divisions.
Groundbreaking Change
Nikki Cross steps into a historic position as the first female co-owner of both PROGRESS and DEFY Wrestling.
Drawing on her extensive experience in WWE, where she held multiple championships and competed at the highest level, she plans to focus heavily on expanding opportunities within the women’s division.
One of her early initiatives includes the planned introduction of a standalone Women’s Super Strong Style 16 tournament in 2027, building on the success of recent mixed-gender tournament formats within PROGRESS.
She also expressed interest in expanding the promotion’s presence across additional UK cities. Cross wants to continue developing its existing fanbase and talent pipeline.
Expansion & International Focus
Under the new ownership structure, both PROGRESS and DEFY are expected to maintain their distinct identities while increasing collaboration with international promotions and talent exchanges.
Plans include broader touring within the United Kingdom, strengthening DEFY’s presence in the Pacific Northwest, and developing new partnerships that could bring additional international talent into both promotions.
The new leadership has also signaled a commitment to preserving PROGRESS Wrestling’s signature intimate, gritty atmosphere while modernizing its global outreach strategy.
Looking Ahead
PROGRESS Wrestling, founded in 2012, has long been regarded as one of the most influential promotions in modern British wrestling. They played a key role in the early careers of stars such as Will Ospreay, Toni Storm, Pete Dunne, and Gunther.
After a shutdown during the COVID-19 pandemic, the company was revived and has since re-established itself through consistent live events and international partnerships.
The first major shows under the new ownership are already scheduled, including Chapter 195: Wonderbrawl II in Manchester on June 7, followed by Chapter 196: Scorchio! in London at the iconic Electric Ballroom.
For fans and talent alike, the message from the new leadership is clear. PROGRESS and DEFY are entering a new era built on experience, global connections, and a renewed focus on developing the next generation of wrestling stars.
