Tension Rising at American Top Team

American Top Team has been one of MMA’s top gyms for a while now. Right now, the tension is at an all-time high between its pro-level MMA stars at ATT.

There was a time when Jorge Masvidal cornered his good friend and teammate Colby Covington. Notably, at UFC Fight Night 119 against Demian Maia. However, in light of recent events, it seems that the friendship between the duo may have changed for the worse.

Covington Goes OFF on American Top Team Teammates

Both individuals were guests on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show on Monday. Neither held back when Ariel questioned each man about their ongoing feud. Colby went on the Helwani show first and was very vocal about Jorge including referring to him initially as his “ex-best friend.” When Ariel directly asked what the state of their relationship was Colby replied:

“Yeah the state of my relationship with Jorge Masvidal is that he’s the type of guy that when you’re doing something for him yeah he will use you, but as long as you’re doing better than him and you’re not helping him out anymore then he doesn’t care about you. That’s exactly what happened because when he got beat up by Damian Maia and I went in there and I completely destroyed Damian Maia in his home country that’s when the relationship started to get a bit different and he started to act different towards me like a competitor.”

Colby announced that Jorge is definitely not offended by the MAGA stuff

Covington alluded to Masvidal being a big Donald Trump fan himself. By now we should all recognize Colby’s gimmick and see that he is willing to call out anyone. Whatever gets him the most attention or recognition. But, he took it to a new level by retaliating against Dustin Poirier for his comment at UFC 242’s post-fight press conference. Poirier called Colby a “f***ing sellout” due to this feud with Masvidal.

Colby said to Ariel, “I thought they [the comments] were very distasteful. I’m not a sellout, I bought in and he tapped out. That’s what happened, I had to give the people America’s pick of the week Ariel. I had to give them my honest opinion and I thought this was land of the free, home of the brave, land of opportunity, and freedom of speech. Sorry, I can’t have an opinion. I wanted to help the people out and I just honestly knew that Khabib was a better fighter. He [Dustin] thought Robbie Lawler was a better fighter when he picked Robbie to beat me and did I get my feelings hurt? No, I went out there and beat him, so Dustin needs to stop making excuses and trying to blame me for his loss.”

Covington continued

“Sorry, you suck [and] you’re not the best fighter in the world. I don’t know why he’s acting like a childish little kid, but he should get a sponsor from Kleenex with that Emmy award-winning act in the post-fight press conference.”

Dustin simply replied to this on Instagram by saying, “When I see you again at the gym [American Top Team] Colby it’s on-site, I promise you.”

Masvidal Responds

Jorge was a bit more candid in his response.

“I don’t know exactly what was said or not, all I know is that he knows what f***ing gym I’m at and when I’m f***ing there. You know what maybe actually he doesn’t know so I don’t know I could be at the gym tomorrow, Thursday, whenever you want Colby I can be at the f***ing gym and whatever incident you’re having you know we can talk about it like men.”

Masvidal Resumed

“I mean he had to tell Dana White that I was trying to assault him, and Dana White came over to me like I’m in kindergarten talking about don’t give out no three-piece and a soda. I go what the f*** are you talking about Dana? And he goes no Colby is telling me you’re trying to f***ing assault him and you can’t do that. I go, man, this guy’s such a bitch I told him let’s talk like men. Why are you online doing all this shit? For likes? Follows? For fans? That’s how low your soul is because two weeks ago he was the one saying that I was his best friend.”

Explaining the End of the Covington Friendship

“I haven’t said none of that sh** in a while because this mother***er did some shit I didn’t like to somebody that I adore. And that’s my coach so since then we haven’t been cool, ya know? This dude needs to slow down man because I mean he knows better than most who the f*** I am, so I’ll be at the gym Colby if you’re hearing this you little b***h because you will.”

“He acts like he’s not sensitive at all but he’s the most sensitive guy I’ve ever met, and he cries when he reads comments. So, Colby if you’re hearing this or when you read this, I’ll be at the gym this whole time this week you know if you want to talk like men or not let me know.”

Asking Masvidal About The Covington Friendship

“Man we haven’t kicked it in some time. You know, I just know what type of person he is. Throwing my name out there, my best friend this my best friend that. Since his title fight with RDA, an incident happened between him and my coach. [And] my coach cornered him in that fight as well. Since then I haven’t kicked it with him or none of that stuff. But, you know I don’t like to talk about it and this right now is stupid you know? Because this guy is bringing it up and talking all this s**t then f*** it we’ll bring it up.”

He Continued

“But this is supposed to be between me and him, not between me and the f***ing world,” said Masvidal. “That’s the way I was raised and that’s the way I was taught. But, if you want to be a little whore and open up your mouth for attention, well here it is buddy. And guess what if I’m talking s**t if I’m doing any of that, run up on me bro. Come at me man, say it to my face and pull up on me man. See if this dude will even look me in the eye man, see if that s**t will even happen.”

It looks like Dan Lambert and the coaching staff at American Top Team are in for a stressful time. Especially if these men happen to see each other at the gym.
