Ilia Topuria Blasts Islam Makhachev, Islam Fires Back
The MMA world is buzzing after a heated exchange between former UFC champions Islam Makhachev and Ilia Topuria. While some fans are quick to accuse Islam of ducking Topuria, our latest YouTube video makes one thing clear: Islam Makhachev isn’t ducking Ilia. If anything, Ilia is playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers.
We start with Topuria’s recent press conference in Alicante, Spain, ahead of WOW FC 19. Ilia—who also happens to be a shareholder in the promotion—used the opportunity to take direct shots at Islam, calling him “the biggest hypocrite I have ever seen” and accusing him of being mentally weak ahead of his move to welterweight.
It didn’t take long for Islam to fire back. He questioned Ilia’s legitimacy at lightweight and throwing shade at what he’s done in the division. The lightweight champ didn’t mince words, saying, “You are nobody in the LW division, just a big mouth from Spain with a nice haircut.”
In our video, we analyze:
- The context behind Topuria’s comments
- Islam’s history of fighting top contenders and taking short-notice bouts
- Why the “ducking” narrative doesn’t hold up
- How Islam’s comments about Ilia needing to fight once at lightweight make no sense
We also point out that while Ilia has every right to aim high, his own division has no shortage of deserving contenders—including names like Movsar Evloev, Lerone Murphy, and Arnold Allen. Whether you’re team Islam, team Ilia, or just love the drama… This is the kind of beef that could set the stage for a blockbuster clash in the near future.
