A pivotal strawweight bout between former champion, Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Michelle Waterson has been verbally agreed upon for UFC Fight Night on October 12th.
Right now, if all remains according to plan, the event would be taking place a week after UFC 243, which is expected for Melbourne, Australia. The venue and location for the bout has yet to be announced.
If the fight is officially made, then we have a high-level clash between some of the best strawweights on the planet.
Jedrzejczyk is coming off a flyweight title fight against champion, Valentina Shevchenko, where she lost via unanimous decision. She is 1-3 in her last four fights. Although prior to that, she solidified herself as one of the most dominant UFC champions in history. She became the second UFC strawweight champion, after finishing Carla Esparza via KO at UFC 185. She then proceeded to defend her title 5 times, before losing to Rose Namajunas at UFC 217.
Waterson is coming off a unanimous decision victory over former title challenger Karolina Kowalkiewicz at UFC on ESPN 2. She is currently riding a 3-fight win streak, including wins over Kowalkiewicz, Felice Herrig and Cortney Casey.
It is possible that the winner could be next for a strawweight title shot.
