Meet The Man Behind Sean Strickland’s Fan Account: PC Strickland

Read Time:3 Minute, 34 Second

Sean Strickland is one of the most polarizing figures in the world right now. From facing off with former president Donald Trump, to beating up influencers and winning the UFC title, the top middleweight contender is unapologetically himself. He is beloved by most of the community due to his ability to relate to the “common man.”

Many learned of Strickland after he dethroned the long-reigning champion Israel Adesanya at UFC 293. However, some have been with him since the beginning. One loyal supporter is the X account, PC Strickland. This account specializes in creating memes to depict Strickland’s thoughts and adding light-hearted commentary to make MMA fun.

We had the pleasure of speaking with the man behind PC Strickland:

The Man Behind @PCStricklandMMA

Sean Samus is a longtime fan of Sean Strickland and appreciates his values. “I’m blue-collar. I feel like he represents blue-collar people. I’ve done that my whole entire life, worked a bunch of odd jobs.”

Not only does Samus work extremely hard, he also has been training martial arts for the last 5 years. He has massive goals in life, and his mission is centered around discipline. One of his potential aspirations is media. “Trying to do more things with this [PC Strickland] other than just funny stuff on Twitter,” he said. “Maybe do some more things in the media space.”

Samus is down to contribute to the community, whether it be interviewing fans, breaking down fights, or anything MMA-related.

Why Was PC Strickland Created?

After recovering from a devastating motorcycle accident, Strickland returned to middleweight in October 2020, taking on Jack Marshman. For those that don’t know, he was chirping the whole fight en route to a victory. Later that night, Samus and his friends watched the American sitcom South Park, and the fight highlights side by side. The South Park episode involved a “Politically Correct” (PC) Principal, and that’s when Samus thought of PC Strickland.

“We were like talking for [Sean], trying to help him out, trying to bridge the gap and make him more PC and brand-friendly. But Sean’s going to do what Sean does, and I can’t really do anything about it. I just got to support the guy. I can’t support everything he does, but listen… I’m representing Sean until the day I die.”

Whatever Strickland says vulgarly, the PC Strickland account depicts it in a less controversial way through memes and GIFs. While the account has reached over 4,600 followers on X, it has reached millions through interactions and reposts by stars in the UFC

A Legendary Meeting at UFC 297

Strickland started having private conversations and laughs with Samus early into the account’s existence. The two often collaborated on X, and 4 years later, they finally met.

Samus, a long-time MMA fan, made the trek from Pennsylvania to Toronto to watch his favorite fighter headline UFC 297 against Dricus du Plessis in his first title defense. The two met up after the ceremonial weigh-ins and shared a laugh. Strickland posted this on social media, and the MMA community celebrated the moment.

“It was like kind of like meeting someone you’ve talked to before, especially messing around with him for the past three years,” exclaimed Samus. “It’s almost like we get each other’s humor.”

Strickland’s teammates always praise him for being genuine, whether online or in person. “It’s really cool to see somebody like that have that kind of aura but then still be down to earth and mess with me,” admitted Samus. “It’s honestly a trip I’ll never forget.”

What’s Next?

Given Strickland’s star power, Samus believes there are so many money fights for him in the division. He believes that the judges at UFC 297 should have given Strickland the nod. From working hard, keeping it light, and exploring their talents, both Seans represent the hard-working, blue-collar American. Perhaps, Samus could bring more of his talents to the media space one day.
