A wrestler attacked a stuffed iguana, and the crowd booed him for it.
At WWE and AAA’s Worlds Collide in June 2025, Mr. Iguana brought La Yesca into the opening match. Lince Dorado assaulted his plush companion. Within one match, even the iguana had someone to fight against.
For viewers meeting him that afternoon, the spectacle was an introduction. When Mr. Iguana spoke with The Scrap in 2021, he had already described the ingredients behind his character. There were the wrestlers he idolized, a love of larger-than-life personalities, and an animal that connected him to his hometown.
The bigger stage gave more people a chance to enter the world he had been building.
The Wrestlers Who Made Him Believe
Mr. Iguana grew up admiring Eddie Guerrero, Dragon Kid, and The Great Muta. Guerrero’s death was one of the events that pushed him toward becoming a wrestler himself.
Wrestling’s larger-than-life characters had captured his imagination. His own would take shape around a love of iguanas and the city where he grew up.
A Character Born in Culiacán
Speaking with Línea Directa in June 2025, he traced the character to the iguanas he watched at Parque Las Riberas in Culiacán. When they jumped into the water with their limbs extended, he saw something resembling a wrestler performing a plancha. The movement reminded him of the heroes in old El Santo and Blue Demon films.
He wanted to create a superhero who represented his city. An animal he could watch at a local park gave him both a name and a way to move.
The Matches He Wanted Fans to See
Among his favorite matches was an Escalera de la Recompensa ladder match against Vazco and Taurus for Kaoz Lucha.
His favorite moment, however, involved the audience having a direct say in his career. A fan vote earned him a match against Dr. Wagner Jr. in AAA, giving him the opportunity to face someone he had wanted to wrestle.
Long before Worlds Collide, those fans had helped put him in the ring with one of lucha libre’s established names.
La Yesca Becomes Part of the Match
The character gained a companion when someone gave Mr. Iguana a stuffed iguana. In his 2025 Línea Directa interview, he recalled receiving the gift roughly seven years earlier.
He named it La Yesca. He also connected it to something he wanted children to understand. Iguanas deserved affection and consideration just like the dogs, cats, and other animals they already knew.
Inside a wrestling ring, that affection becomes something an opponent can exploit.
At Worlds Collide, La Yesca even had a chance to score a fall. Mr. Iguana placed the puppet over Lince Dorado for a pin attempt during the six-man tag match. Alongside Aero Star and Octagón Jr., he went on to defeat Dorado, Dragon Lee, and Cruz Del Toro.
La Yesca gave the audience another participant to cheer for and his opponents another way to cause trouble. The act invited everyone in the match to play along.
A Bigger Audience for the Same Unusual World
La Yesca eventually had an adversary of her own.
At the September 2025 Worlds Collide event, Mr. Iguana and Lola Vice faced Finn Bálor and Roxanne Perez. Bálor brought Demonito, his own puppet counterpart, into the encounter. The match included La Yesca diving onto Demonito and Mr. Iguana launching himself at Bálor. Vice pinned Perez to secure the victory.
The opportunities continued into 2026. Mr. Iguana appeared in the men’s Royal Rumble, and on February 7, he and Vice captured the AAA World Mixed Tag Team Championship. Their partnership also brought him to NXT, where WWE advertised the pair against Izzi Dame and Niko Vance that May.
Mr. Iguana grew up captivated by wrestlers who made extraordinary characters feel worth believing in. He found his own inspiration close to home, watching iguanas leap into the water in Culiacán.
Years later, an audience was booing a wrestler for hurting his stuffed companion. Mr. Iguana had given them someone to believe in, too.
