Para Bellum Quintet II: Full Recap and Results

Read Time:3 Minute, 14 Second

If you’re a fan of exciting matches, high-venue production, and relentless submissions, this event was for you.

Coming off the heels of their first successful event earlier this year, Rory McDonell and the Para Bellum team had their goal set on creating an exciting event. No-Gi Grappling has seen a surge in popularity in the last few years. From the 10th planet wave, to Eddie Bravo Invitationals, the sport has been evolving and gaining attention all over the world.

One place where Jiu-Jitsu has been gaining notoriety has been up north, in Canada. With a community of passionate individuals all training and pushing each other, it makes sense that Canada has been funneling a number of high level martial arts athletes. The Para Bellum team not only train professional MMA fighters, but also do their justice for the grappling community. The Quintet event features submission-only style matches. Meaning no points, no advantages. Therefore, just submissions. Additionally, we saw EBI rules to determine any timed-out matches.

On June 21, Para Bellum hosted their second quintet event. This event feature numerous exciting super fights with the featured purple and black belt quintet matches. The purple belt quintet saw Body of Four defeat Straight Blast Gym Niagara in an impressive 5-1 score. While over at the black belts, Team 10th Planet Montreal took an over-over-time win over Nova Uniao Toronto. In conclusion, it got a little dicey.

An interesting piece to this event was that it also feature a free-style wrestling match. Yes, that’s right. High-level Jiu-Jitsu and wrestling.

Main Event – Edited by Author

Let us start by saying the main event was absolute fireworks. It was that match that you show your friend Jiu-Jitsu for the first time to hook them in. It was everything Jiu-Jitsu is, at such a high-level.

The different styles, approaches, relentless submission attacks, transitions. The list goes on. The event especially shined when you see the passion in each competitor. No one gave an inch and never tired themselves out. The five matches actually all ended in a draw. Meaning no one, from either team from their respective matches submitted. It was truly a spectacle.

It is to be made that this article has been edited twice. On behalf of theScrap, and Sasha Moks MMA, all statements made about both teams, and competitors, has been retracted. This is due to inaccuracy of said statements.

We wish nothing but the best for both parties. The inaccuracies initially reported were at fault by the reporter. Both athletes are professionals and it is expected that the issue will be resolved in a way both parties see fit.

Again, personal apologies to all affected by this article.
