Wrestle Kingdom 16, Night 3: NOAH & NJPW Collide

Read Time:1 Minute, 37 Second

For those not familiar, Wrestle Kingdom is the biggest show of the year for NJPW. These last few years, WK has been a two-night show and earlier this year, it was announced that Wrestle Kingdom would be a three-night show. Recently, NOAH and NJPW-the two biggest promotions in Japan-announced they would collide in a super-show on the third night of Wrestle Kingdom.

This super-show will take place on January 8th, at the Yokohama Arena. As of this moment, no matches have been announced, but there is potential for some interesting matchups.

The two biggest promotions in Japan clashing is best for business. Before we knew about this collaboration, there was a lot of criticism regarding NJPW hosting three nights of Wrestle Kingdom. The possibilities of NJPW vs. NOAH are fascinating and an awesome card can easily be made.

The only problem would be the booking and who goes over. These types of shows have had these problems before, but hopefully this show will not have that.

What matches are we going to see?

As mentioned before, NJPW and NOAH have yet to announce a card but there have been hints towards what to expect on the card. The most likely match to be booked would be Kazuchika Okada, Hiroshi Tanahashi & Shingo Takagi (NJPW) vs. Keiji Mutoh, Kaito Kiyomiya & Katsuhiko Nakajima (NOAH). Although, singles matches between all 6 wrestlers could also happen too.

During the announcement, wrestlers from both promotions gave some comments regarding the show and they were spicy. A great way to start the feud between both promotions.

Night 3 of Wrestle Kingdom will be an interesting one for Japanese pro wrestling and hopefully the beginning of more super-shows like it. Only time will tell if this will be the case…

Could a show like this inspire wrestling in the U.S. to do the same?
