WWE NXT Results & Recap: March 13, 2019

Read Time:5 Minute, 52 Second

Last week was a fantastic episode from the black and gold brand, with the beginning of the Dusty Classic. How will NXT follow up on the action of last week? Let’s find out!

Forgotten Sons def. Moustache Mountain.

The show kicked off with more Dusty Classic action, with The Forgotten Sons vs Moustache Mountain. The match was really a back and forth match in the beginning, but the numbers ended up being too much for Tyler and Seven. The biggest part of this match was obviously Jaxson Ryker, who was ringside and played a big role in the match. This was really quite a showcase for Tyler Bate, who was so impressive in this match. Hitting standing moonsaults and all kinds of impressive techniques, I love watching that guy wrestle and for being so young it’s insanely impressive. I don’t think Forgotten Sons get enough credit, they’re packaging is super cool, and in the ring Wesley Blake and Steve Cutler are really good wrestlers.

I was rooting for Moustache Mountain but I understand why Forgotten Sons advanced, you need a heel team in the finals of the Dusty Classic. The match ended when Bate and Seven set up Steve Cutler for the move that they used to beat the Street Profits, but Forgotten Sons disrupted it. They took care of Trent Seven who had been struggling with an injured knee during the match. Then Forgotten Sons picked up the win with a nasty looking inverted DDT/stomp to advance. This was a super fun match I enjoyed every second of it, and Tyler Bate was easily the MVP of the match.

Whether it’s this NXT or NXT UK I hope they give him another belt at some point in the near future.

Adam Cole confronts The Bro.

Then we go backstage where Cathy Kelley is interviewing the Bro, Matt Riddle. Cathy asks him why he interrupted Velveteen Dream last week, and he says again that he came out to say hey and get a look at the North American Championship. Just a side note, I know that it is just the way he is but I love Matt Riddle’s stoner, chill attitude. Back to the segment, he goes on about getting a shot at the title when he is interrupted by the inaugural champion, Adam Cole. Cole tells him that he doesn’t deserve a match for the North American Championship. Then he says sooner rather than later it will be around his [Cole’s] waist and that’s “undisputed”.

Then Matt Riddle tells him he talks a big game but he is “pretty good Bro” which made me laugh. The segment ends with Riddle challenging him too a match, they say some words between them then Riddle simply says, “Bro” and walks away. This was an extremely fun segment and I love both of these guys so I’m all for seeing a match between these two. I love that since Cole lost the title he hasn’t moved on, it really makes it look prestigious.

Io Shirai vs Bianca Belair ends in a No Contest.

Next up we had Io Shirai vs Bianca Belair to determine who would face NXT Women’s Champion at Takeover, with the Champion sitting ringside. I really liked this match, these two have great chemistry in the ring it was nothing groundbreaking. This was very much a power vs speed match with Shirai using her speed and Belair overpowering her. I really liked how they displayed the clash of styles and it made for a solid match. However not very long into the match Shayna who was on commentary stormed the ring and just started choking everybody out. She threw Shirai out of the ring then choked out Belair, then Kairi Sane came out to confront her.

It did not go well as Shayna choked out Sane, then when Shirai re-entered to help out her friend, she suffered the same fate. The segment ended with Shayna standing tall over her three challengers all laid out which made a dope visual. I have to say, I am not a fan of Shayna it’s nothing against her she’s a very good wrestler and plays her character well, I’m just personally not a fan. I would love to see her lose that title at Takeover: NY, but I think they want to make her Asuka levels of dominant. Overall this was a very effective segment and established Shayna as the un-beatable heel Champion of the division.

That being said, they are also kind of booking themselves in a corner because who’s left to challenger her? I do have faith in NXT though and I can’t wait to see who has that match with her at Takeover and how they justify it storyline wise.

Ricochet & Aleister Black def. #DIY.

Now let me tell you, when I realized we were getting this match on last night’s episode of NXT, I could not wait to get home and feast my eyes. These are four of the best wrestlers in the world, and honestly two of the best tag teams. I was going to try and take notes while this match was going on but I can’t type that fast. Honestly, watching this match made me tired, the action did not stop from bell-to-bell. It is kind of surreal to see DIY tagging again after the perfect rivalry they were having last year this time.

The best spot of this match was Aleister Black was on the top rope and Ciampa hopped up on the apron and did a cutter on Black, which looked absolutely insane. The creativity in this match was out of this world, you can just tell that the ring IQ of these four men is on another level. Near the end of the match Johnny seemed to have injured his knee which essentially left Ciampa to do the work himself, this would play into the end of the match. Ciampa really sold the Concern for Johnny well, but the match came to an end when Ciampa ate a Black Mass and a 630 Splash.

Black and Ricochet advance to the finals against Forgotten Sons, but it’s what happened after the match that really put a wrench in the story. After the match Candice came to check on Johnny and was joined by Ciampa, who was obviously concerned. Ciampa helped Gargano up the ramp, but when they got to the top of the ramp, Johnny revealed his true colours. Shades of Takeover Chicago 2017, Ciampa went to throw Gargano into the LED screen but Gargano’s “injury” was all a set up. Gargano resisted and threw Ciampa into the LED board wearing the same gear as they did when they broke up in 2017. He then hit a nasty superkick on his former parter, and stood tall over the NXT Champion.

Sometimes if you want something right, you have to Do It Yourself.
