WWE Royal Rumble Analysis

Read Time:2 Minute, 41 Second

This year’s edition of the Royal Rumble took place inside the Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas. After this show ended, the road to WrestleMania 36 officially began.

The Card

With the exception of the two Rumble matches, the show felt pointless and boring at certain points. The best match of the night, excluding the Rumble matches, was the U.S. title match between Andrade and Humberto Carrillo.

Asuka and Becky Lynch had a disappointing match. Their match for last year’s Rumble was so much better. Lacey Evans and Bayley had a boring match, but the good news is that this feud is over.

The rest of matches were ok and just felt like filler until the plans of booking Roman Reigns vs. The Fiend for WrestleMania would take place.

NXT

Wrestlers from NXT were featured in this year’s Rumble. Bianca Belair, Keith Lee and Shayna Baszler had the best booking of the night. The other wrestlers of NXT featured during both Rumbles were just bodies and didn’t do much.

NXT needed a big push after the recent ratings of January were not on their favor.

Women’s Rumble

This year’s women’s Rumble had a lackluster build to it. The match itself was fun in a lot of ways. Bianca Belair was the MVP of this match with an excellent performance.

The lowest point of the match and probably of the night was the return of Santina Marella (Santino Marella in drag).

The winner of this year’s Rumble was predictable with Charlotte Flair. It seems like Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair will face each other once more at WrestleMania.

Shayna Baszler should’ve won this year’s Rumble. WWE last year during Survivor Series did a great job building for a one on one between Becky Lynch and Shayna Baszler.

Men’s Rumble

This year’s rumble was really well booked. Brock Lesnar being first was interesting and him eliminating people left and right was really fun.

Drew McIntyre was the MVP of the night with a great performance and eliminating Brock Lesnar. With this win, McIntyre is getting the push people have been asking for quite some time. Brock Lesnar vs. Drew McIntyre will be an interesting match to see.

The return of Edge was emotional and epic. Edge looked great and remined everybody why he has the best spear of all time. The plans of Edge seem to be against Orton for WrestleMania.

Overall

WWE did a great job booking Drew McIntyre as a star and him winning the Rumble was a great idea. Only time will tell if Vince McMahon and creative will go all the way with him.

Unless something interesting happens between now and WrestleMania, the interest in Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair seems to be none.

With a few exceptions, most of the NXT guys looked to be below the Raw and SmackDown wrestlers, which is not a good idea considering WWE is trying to tell fans NXT is in the same level as both main roster shows.

Texas for the most part is an awesome wrestling crowd, but during the show, they were quiet and didn’t react much to the NXT wrestlers.
