Hall of Fame Worthy Matches

3 Iconic Matches That Should Be in the WWE Hall of Fame

Read Time:3 Minute, 24 Second

In 2025, WWE introduced something fans had been wanting for years, The “Immortal Moment” category. Instead of just honoring careers, this new addition to the WWE Hall of Fame recognizes the matches that helped define the industry.

The first induction set the tone immediately. Bret Hart vs. ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin from WrestleMania 13 was rightfully given the honor. It was a match built on storytelling, toughness, and a double turn that changed everything and led us into the “Attitude Era”.

As of now, WWE hasn’t announced the next match to receive the honor. But when they do, there are a few that feel like no-brainers. Here are three matches that deserve to be inducted next:

Ricky Steamboat vs. ‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage (WrestleMania 3)

If you’re talking about pure in-ring excellence, this is where the conversation starts.

Ricky Steamboat vs. Randy Savage at WrestleMania 3 wasn’t just great for its time, it still holds up today. The pacing, the near falls, the crowd investment, it truly made this match standout for its time. It was different. At a time when larger-than-life characters were the main attraction, these two went out and stole the show with wrestling. Every move mattered. Every moment built on the last. And the ending felt earned, not rushed.

This wasn’t just a classic, it helped redefine what a big match could look like on the biggest stage. Not to mention, it’s a match that many others on this list look to as “the best.” If the “Immortal Moment” category is about influence, this match is already immortal.

The Rock vs. ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin (WrestleMania 17)

Some matches are great. Some matches define an era. The Rock vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin at WrestleMania 17 is the Attitude Era at its peak. The stakes were massive. The crowd was electric. And the two biggest stars in the business delivered exactly what you’d expect, and then some. But what really makes this match stand out is the ending.

Austin aligning with Vince McMahon shocked fans and flipped the script in a way nobody saw coming. It wasn’t just a regular match finish, no, it was a moment that changed the direction of WWE overnight. You can argue about the decision, sure. Especially when people we’re underwhelmed with the follow up. But you can’t argue the impact.

When it comes to “Immortal Moments,” it doesn’t get much bigger than this. To me, personally, this is my all-time favorite match. If this award was up for a vote, this one would have mine.

Mankind vs. The Undertaker – Hell in a Cell (King of the Ring 1998)

And then… there’s this. Mick Foley vs. The Undertaker inside Hell in a Cell at King of the Ring 1998 is one of the most unforgettable memories in pro wrestling history. This is the match people bring up when they talk about the “realness” and “violence” in wrestling. The two falls that changed one man’s career. Hitting the table. Going through cell. Pure chaos.

Foley, as Mankind, put his body on the line in a way that still feels unreal. And Undertaker played the perfect role in a match that felt less like a contest and more like survival. It’s not about technical wrestling here. It’s about shock value, risk, and a moment that has been replayed for decades. The brutality began almost immediately as Mankind was tossed off the cell and through the announcers table at ringside.

Many people didn’t believe he’d walk again, let alone finish the match. Then he climbed back up atop the cell, and went through it, into the ring, via Undertaker choke-slam. Yes, Foley lost a tooth. Yes, it was sticking through his nose. Was it brutal? Absolutely. Is it iconic? Indeed.

If the Hall of Fame is about moments people never forget, this one might be at the very top of the list.
