CM Punk Heading Back to CFFC Booth Amid WWE Return Buzz

Read Time:2 Minute, 9 Second

It looks like CM Punk will make his long-awaited return to MMA later this month.

Cage Fury Fighting Championships (CFFC) announced that the seven-time WWE World Champion will return to the promotion’s broadcast team for CFFC 156 on June 26 at the Hard Rock Casino Rockford in Illinois.

The appearance marks Punk’s first CFFC broadcast assignment of 2026. It carries added significance as the event takes place just outside his hometown of Chicago.

Punk has served as a color commentator for CFFC since 2018, joining the promotion following his UFC career. Throughout the years, he remained involved with the organization during various stages of his wrestling career, including his time away from WWE and his championship run in AEW.

WWE Hiatus

Since returning to WWE in late 2023, Punk’s appearances with CFFC have become less frequent. However, the promotion’s debut in Illinois proved too good of an opportunity to pass up.

The announcement also comes at an interesting time for Punk. The WWE star has been absent from television since his WrestleMania 42 loss to Roman Reigns, leading to widespread speculation about his return.

Recent reports suggest WWE has significant plans for Punk’s comeback heading into SummerSlam, with Chicago frequently mentioned as a potential location for his return. That makes his appearance at CFFC 156 in Illinois particularly noteworthy, as it comes just days before WWE is scheduled to visit Chicago on July 6.

While nothing has been officially announced, Punk’s return to the MMA spotlight is likely to add even more intrigue to the ongoing speculation surrounding his WWE future.

CFFC 156

For CFFC 156, CM Punk will once again work alongside longtime MMA journalist and CFFC General Manager John Morgan on commentary.

In addition to Punk’s return, CFFC also announced the promotional debut of veteran ring announcer Michael C. Williams. Williams brings nearly three decades of combat sports experience and is widely recognized for announcing more than 300 Bellator MMA events throughout his career.

The card will be headlined by Jackson Stanford and Bevon Lewis, who are scheduled to compete for the interim heavyweight championship. It will also feature:

  • Interim CFFC Heavyweight Championship: Jackson Stanford vs. Bevon Lewis
  • Will Starks vs. Roland Pruden
  • Matt Gawlik vs. Billy Ray Valdez
  • Shane Jackman vs. Scottie Sopko
  • Guram Gochashvili vs. Leivon Lewis
  • Landen Fischer vs. Abdimamatov Syimyk
  • Henry Huff vs. Darius Patterson
  • Darian Padgett vs. Michael Pino
  • Christian Herrera vs. Levi Frank
  • NextGen: Edgar Rojas vs. Joshua Severson
  • NextGen: Alex Liaromatis vs. Jeremiah Martin

CFFC 156 takes place Friday, June 26, from the Hard Rock Casino Rockford in Illinois.
