WWE May Have Booked King of the Ring Into a No-Win Situation

Read Time:3 Minute, 4 Second

WWE may have created a problem with this years King Of The Ring.

With three competitors left, Jey Uso, Je’Von Evans, and Oba Femi, there’s no outcome that cleanly fits what this tournament is supposed to deliver.

And that’s an issue. Because the reward is clear. The winner is headed to SummerSlam for a WWE or World Heavyweight Championship match against Cody Rhodes or Roman Reigns. That should feel like a massive, can’t-miss main event.

Right now, it doesn’t.

King Jey Uso

Lets Start with Jey Uso. He feels like the favorite. He’s one of the most over stars on the roster, the crowd is always behind him, and from a storyline standpoint, it’s the easiest direction WWE can go.

But let’s be honest, Jey Uso vs. Cody Rhodes for the WWE Championship doesn’t feel like a SummerSlam main event.

It feels like a solid opening match. Maybe even a co-main event. But SummerSlam is supposed to be one of WWE’s biggest shows of the year, and that matchup just doesn’t hit at that main event level that’s promised to the winner. It feels more like a strong B-show title defense than a true headline attraction.

Plus, with alot of the online fanbase turning on Jey Uso, half of the fanbase won’t be happy.

King Je’Von Evans

Then you have Je’Von Evans. This is the bold option. The one that creates a new star overnight and Evans has the upside, the energy, and the long-term potential to be something special.

But is SummerSlam the place to take that risk? Throwing a young, unproven talent into a WWE Championship match on that stage is a gamble. It could work, but it could just as easily expose him. And that’s not a position you want to put someone in when you’re trying to build them the right way.

And truthfully, Je’Von has just been moving around the mid-card scene, so a leap into the main event championship picture with little-to-no build would be a wild choice.

Some fans may love the idea, but do you risk a potential bad execution?

King Oba Femi

Then there’s Oba Femi. Out of the three, he might be the most complete package. He looks like a main eventer, carries himself like one, and already feels like he belongs in big matches.

The problem is, WWE already has plans for him. His ongoing feud with Brock Lesnar is clearly building toward another match, likely at SummerSlam especially with the show taking place in Lesnar’s home state of Minnesota. That alone feels like a major attraction.

So now you’re stuck, unless WWE gets creative.

With SummerSlam being two nights, there is a scenario where Oba Femi could wrestle Brock Lesnar on one night, then come back and challenge Cody Rhodes — or even Roman Reigns — on the second. It’s ambitious and risky, but it might be the only option that actually elevates both the tournament and the event.

And that’s really what this comes down to. Jey Uso is the safe choice, but doesn’t feel big enough. Je’Von Evans is the exciting choice, but doesn’t feel ready. Oba Femi feels like the right choice, but is already tied up.

There’s no perfect answer. And that’s why this year’s King of the Ring doesn’t feel like a launchpad, it feels like a corner WWE booked itself into.

Because in trying to make every option work, WWE may have ended up with a tournament where none of them truly do.
