The Rise of Konosuke Takeshita

Read Time:2 Minute, 20 Second

The Land of the Rising Sun, Japan, has been the home to some of the greatest pro wrestlers of all time. Konosuke Takeshita has potential to join that list, and could be a potential game-changing star for AEW and DDT.

Those who have followed Japanese wrestling for a long time are familiar with the name Konosuke Takeshita. He has always been held as a prodigy in DDT, and it didn’t take him long to become the ace of the promotion at a young age. For many, becoming the ace after the departure of the two biggest stars DDT had (Kenny Omega & Kota Ibushi) could feel overwhelming. But for Takeshita if felt as natural as a fish swimming…

The Evolution of Takeshita

Takeshita was so exponential that DDT was too small for his talent. At the end, some of the biggest promotions in the world wanted his services. However, he chose to sign with AEW and remain with DDT.

Making the jump overseas can be challenging for any wrestler from around the world, especially considering the cultural and language barriers. We also can’t ignore the differences between American and Japanese wrestling. There are cases of Japanese wrestlers having great runs in the U.S. like the Great Muta or Asuka. But there are also others that didn’t go so well like Shinsuke Nakamura or Sareee. Being in AEW though, helps Takeshita with this a bit since most of the AEW fanbase do watch pro wrestling from different parts of the world. Something that doesn’t happen much in WWE…

AEW and Tony Khan are taking a slow-burning approach to Takeshita’s rise on the roster. While most fans of AEW have somewhat of a clue who he is, others don’t, so they taking their time to introduce him and showcase what he’s all about. It took Takeshita no time to connect with the AEW fanbase despite the language barrier, and that’s the magic of pro wrestling. It’s a universal language.

The Youth Revolution

AEW is starting their youth revolution now that most of their top stars are up in age. It’s time to trigger some of those young guns they have on their roster, and we are seeing them already taking those steps. You have MJF as World Champion, and guys like Takeshita, Darby Allin, Jungle Boy Jack Perry, Top Flight, and others being given more TV time. And most importantly, wins.

Takeshita has the potential to be a major star for AEW, if booked right, and the good news is that AEW and Tony Khan know they have a generational talent on their hands. With the right booking, they could have one of their biggest stars of the future.

Only time will tell if AEW will take advantage of the generational talent Konosuke Takeshita is.
