Will WWE Eventually Follow UFC to the White House?
On June 14th, UFC Freedom 250 is scheduled to take place at the White House, marking a historic event for the UFC and its parent company, TKO Group Holdings.
Given Donald Trump’s close relationship with TKO, and the recent news that he purchased TKO stock, it raises an interesting question. Could WWE eventually hold an event at the White House as well?
Rumors of a WWE event at the White House have circulated for over a year. Much of that speculation stems from Trump’s relationship with WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque. That connection extends beyond wrestling, as Levesque also serves as Vice Chair of Trump’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition.
Long before the formation of TKO, Trump had strong ties to WWE through his friendship with Vince and Linda McMahon. He has appeared on WWE programming multiple times over the years. Beyond those appearances, he has long been a vocal fan of professional wrestling.
Those connections make the idea of WWE eventually running a White House event far from impossible.
Why WWE Hasn’t Followed UFC’s Lead Yet
However, WWE and UFC have very different fan bases. While there is overlap between the two audiences, MMA fans generally lean more conservative. Professional wrestling fans have shifted more left politically over the past decade. That divide could be one reason WWE has historically been more cautious about publicly aligning itself with Trump than the UFC has been.
Ironically, many WWE performers have openly expressed support for Trump on social media. It has created an interesting contrast between portions of the fan base and the people working within the company.
At the end of the day, WWE has just as many, if not more, connections to Trump than the UFC does. Professional wrestling has played a significant role in Trump’s public image over the years. Yet, WWE has largely avoided embracing that relationship in the same way the UFC has.
Whether it’s next year or several years down the road, it feels increasingly likely that WWE will eventually follow the UFC’s lead.
Between Trump’s history with WWE, his relationship with key figures within TKO, and his investment in the company, the possibility of a WWE event at the White House seems less like a question of “if” and more a question of “when.”
