The Uncertain Road to WrestleMania 42
The Royal Rumble has come and gone, officially kicking off the Road to WrestleMania 42.
As always, the event gave us plenty to talk about. It offered an early glimpse into what WWE may have planned for its biggest show of the year.
Roman Reigns Wins — And Fans Push Back
The men’s Royal Rumble was won by Roman Reigns, a result that sparked mostly negative reactions across social media. Many fans expressed fatigue with the seemingly endless Bloodline vortex and Roman Reigns once again standing atop the mountain. As the clear favorite heading into the match, Reigns’ victory came with little surprise, which ultimately hurt the overall excitement.
The match itself failed to resonate, earning a 4.73/10 rating on Cagematch. It’s certainly an indicator that the Rumble disappointed a large portion of the fanbase. That said, the true standout of the night was Oba Femi. His dominant performance, highlighted by five eliminations, served as a strong showcase and arguably made him the real winner of the match.
Following the latest episode of Raw, it was confirmed that Roman Reigns will challenge CM Punk for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 42. While their shared history gives the feud some foundation, for some fans, it feels underwhelming for two stars of this magnitude.
Women’s Royal Rumble Delivers More Optimism
The women’s Royal Rumble was met with a far more positive response. Liv Morgan emerged victorious, and the match earned a 6.16/10 rating on Cagematch, reflecting stronger overall reception. Much of the praise centered on Sol Ruca and Kiana James, who acted as the workhorses of the match. It reminded fans of just how deep WWE’s women’s division truly is.
As of this writing, Liv Morgan’s WrestleMania intentions remain unclear. She has yet to announce which champion she will challenge for a world title opportunity.
WrestleMania 42 is beginning to take shape, though there is still a long road ahead. WWE has time to build a strong card, but fan confidence remains shaky. Whether WWE can regain momentum before reaching Las Vegas will define how this WrestleMania is ultimately remembered.
