Jim Cornette praises AEW for CM Punk debut
CM Punk is back.
All Elite Wrestling has had its fair share of critics since the company’s inception in 2019. Perhaps their most notable and loudest critic has been none other than Jim Cornette.
Cornette has rarely given Tony Khan and AEW credit, but even he could not find any holes in the monumental debut of CM Punk. On The Jim Cornette Experience, Cornette talked about the debut and had nothing but good things to say.
“Well, it wasn’t the way I would’ve done it—it was actually a lot better,” he said. “It was perfect. Wait a minute, hold on here (clapping). How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. I said it wasn’t the way I would’ve done it and I said it was better and here’s why.
“I realized two things. No. 1, Punk knows his hometown better and realizes with how long he’s been gone they didn’t need to do anything else. Secondly, also, to be honest, I would’ve been running a normal television program up until now. Whereas in retrospect and in reflection they’ve had so many surprises and shocks that that wouldn’t have been unusual. This is the first time that they just had a big star show up, come out, get an ovation, do his promo, not be attacked. So in this case the simplest thing that they could’ve done was the perfect thing.”
CM Punk will have his debut match in AEW in Chicago, Illinois at All Out on Sept. 5 vs. Darby Allin.
