Khamzat Chimaev still happy to invite Conor McGregor to train alongside him
Despite the possibility of Conor McGregor jumping the queue in the welterweight division, Khamzat Chimaev is still happy to have Conor McGregor train alongside him if he faces welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, before him.
In a recent interview with The Mac Life, Conor McGregor gave Oscar Willis a wide range of potential opponents he could see himself fighting upon his return. Dustin Poirier, Nate Diaz, and Charles Oliveira were among the names. However, the Irish superstar also manifested an interest in being the first to attain three world titles across three divisions by knocking out Kamaru Usman.
Khamzat Chimaev, who is scheduled to face Gilbert Burns at UFC 273 for a potential number one contender fight, did state he understands the business side of the fight game and wouldn’t be surprised if McGregor was offered the welterweight title fight due to the stature of his profile.
Khamzat Chimaev Sends Conor McGregor a Message
If he [McGregor] wanna be back, if he need some help then, we’re here. If he wanna fight Usman, I think it maybe can happen because the guy is so famous. They can make money, good money, both. That’s why if they wanna fight, both, I think the UFC wanna make it.” Khamzat Chimaev shared on a video on his Youtube channel.

“When I finish Gilbert Burns, I think I am the next for title. But this is the business. Whose the famous, makes more money, they choose them. I understand that. But we’ll see what’s gonna happen. If he wanna come and train with us, he [is] welcome,” added Chimaev. (h/t Sportskeeda)
Contenders continue to climb up the ladder in the welterweight division in the hope of challenging Kamaru Usman. The only thing that is in concrete is Leon Edwards being the next in line. Nonetheless, with McGregor’s star power, perhaps “The Notorious” can skip the line and be next for Kamaru Usman. It, of course, depends on if “The Nigerian Nightmare” can successfully defend his title against Leon Edwards.
What do you think? Can Conor McGregor skip the line of contenders in the Welterweight division?
