The Forbidden Door of AEW & DDT

Read Time:1 Minute, 12 Second

Last Saturday, Christopher Daniels (AEW’s VP of Talent Relations) made a surprise appearance announcing that DDT talent would come to AEW and vice versa. What does this mean for both promotions? Only time will tell…

Those who follow both DDT and AEW closely will know that AEW and DDT were already working together, this announcement just makes it more official. Last year, Konosuke Takeshita (current KO-D openweight champion) had a short excursion to AEW. The excursion was a success for him and AEW fans wanted to see more of him in AEW.

The fact that AEW and DDT are working together should not surprise anyone. Kenny Omega (one of AEW’s EVPs) used to wrestled for DDT way before he joined NJPW and was set to wrestle on a DDT show before the pandemic took place.

AEW was also working with TJPW too, who are also owned by the same parent company as NOAH and DDT. Speaking of NOAH, this could be a bridge for AEW and NOAH to work together as well… AEW wouldn’t have to worry about NJPW considering NJPW and NOAH had a co-produced show earlier this year. But then again, there’s no hints at AEW and NOAH starting anything right now.

So folks, get your fantasy booking spreadsheets ready for some interesting match-ups between AEW and DDT. I for one, hope Jun Akiyama and Eddie Kingston have a match between each other soon…
