LFA 200: Main Card Recap
The Legacy Fighting Alliance showcased a stacked lineup, celebrating its 200th event as a promotion. LFA 200 went down in Prior Lake, Minnesota and featured a talent-loaded main card, capped off with three championship bouts.
Featherweight Championship
Elijah Johns (C) vs. Lerryan Douglas (IC)
LFA 200’s main event highlighted a quality featherweight matchup. Reigning champion, Elijah Johns (10-3) faced interim champion, Lerryan Douglas (12-5).
The fight started with both men exchanging hard kicks to the body and legs. Douglas slowly etched his way to the center of the cage as he established his striking rhythm and distance. The interim champion continued to chop the lead leg and body of the defending champion. Johns finally responded with some of his offense. He hammered kicks at Douglas’s forearms and body. Johns experienced some level of success with his right hook over Douglas’s guard. The champion shot in for a single-leg takedown on Douglas with thirty seconds remaining. However, he failed to secure the interim champion on the canvas.
The second round opened with similar approaches from both fighters as they prioritized kicking. Both fighters utilized heavy feints to draw out opportunities on the feet. After the first minute, Douglas began letting his boxing take over. He tagged Johns through his guard with a left hook. Douglas saw his opponent was hurt. He took advantage of this with a wild flurry of hooks and uppercuts to Johns. This attack forced a labored takedown attempt from the dazed champion. Douglas stuffed this attempt from Johns and bathed him with heavy punches as he sat facing the canvas. The interim champion kept raining down the ground and pounding on Johns. The referee saw this and was forced to call a stoppage to the action.
Result: Lerryan Douglas via 2nd-Round KO/TKO (Punches)
Women’s Flyweight Championship
Shannon Clark (C) vs. Cheyanne Bowers (IC)
LFA 200’s co-main event featured women’s flyweight champion, Shannon Clark (6-1) taking on interim flyweight champion, Cheyanne Bowers (5-2).
This was razor-close as both fighters successfully executed their game plans inside the cage. Bowers opened the fight with consistent pressure on the feet as she looked to work her offense. Clark found a lot of success early on with punches to the body of Bowers while inside the clinch. Most of the opening round was spent against the cage until the champions initiated a grappling sequence halfway through. The two regional champions displayed a well-rounded skillset over five hard-fought rounds. They smoothly transitioned from exchanging strikes on the feet to threatening and defending submissions on the ground. The fight was tied at two rounds apiece, going into the fifth and final rounds. Each round was fought narrowly, ultimately leading to a split decision on the judges’ scorecards.
Result: Shannon Clark via Split Decision (48-47 x2, 47-48)
Welterweight Championship
Vanilto Antunes (C) vs. Shamidkhan Magomedov (IC)
The first title fight of the night showcased a welterweight battle. The reigning champion, Vanilto Antunes (16-8) took on interim champion, Shamidkhan Magomedov (10-1).
The fight began with both fighters in the center of the LFA cage. They looked to gauge the striking distance. Once comfortable, Magomedov secured a nice takedown on Antunes. From there, Magomedov worked to control Antunes while advancing positions with ground-and-pound. The talented grappler maintained top position, passing Antunes’ guard, and continued to wear out the defending champ. Magomedov moved into full mount. This position prompted Antunes to explode off the canvas and return to his feet against the cage. This was only momentary success for Antunes as Magomedov picked him up and dumped him on the ground. Shortly after, Magomedov worked his way to securing a tight rear naked choke on Antunes.
Result: Shamidkhan Magomedov via 1st-Round Submission (Rear Naked choke)
