Card Preview & Predictions for WWE Backlash
WWE Backlash 2026 is shaping up to be a must-watch event. Below, we break down each matchup, provide our predictions, and highlight the key storylines ahead of the big night:

World Heavyweight Championship: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Jacob Fatu
For this to be Roman Reigns’ first title defense wasn’t exactly on my bingo card. But, it says a lot about where this Bloodline story is headed.
On paper, this feels obvious. With TKO now in charge, Roman remains the biggest draw. He brings eyes, attention, and money. That alone makes the outcome feel predictable.
But what this match really does is elevate Jacob Fatu into that true main event tier.
There are a lot of moving pieces here. Solo Sikoa and his MFTs are looming, and they clearly don’t want Fatu to succeed. At the same time, Fatu has made it clear that Roman Reigns is not his Tribal Chief. Meanwhile, Tama Tonga has been at odds with Solo, and all signs point to a potential split. If that happens, does he align with Fatu?
Still, as much as the chaos is building, this feels like Roman’s moment to retain.
Prediction: Roman Reigns

Seth Rollins vs. Bron Breakker
This is one of those matches where neither guy should lose. But someone has to, and that’s what makes it so compelling. It’s also a matchup that’s been building for a long time, which only raises the stakes.
Both men are coming back from injury, and Seth Rollins is already carrying momentum in the wrong direction after his loss to Gunther at WrestleMania. That matters.
Then there’s The Vision. With Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed no longer in the fold, the group feels like it’s losing its grip. A win here could stabilize things, or at the very least, delay the collapse.
Because that’s really what this is about, the slow realization that Seth can’t do this alone. The Vision is cracking, and eventually, he’s going to need reinforcements. And when that moment comes, everything changes.
This has quietly been one of WWE’s biggest ongoing storylines, arguably second only to the Bloodline. It probably should’ve reached a climax already, but now that it’s finally unfolding alongside everything else, it needs to hit.
I’m expecting a statement win.
Prediction: Bron Breakker

IYO SKY vs. Asuka
The fact this match is happening without Kairi Sane involved feels a little off. But at least we’re finally getting the matchup that probably should’ve happened at WrestleMania.
There was real history-making potential there too. A one-on-one match between two of the greatest Japanese women to ever step in a WWE ring? That’s special. Still, getting it at Backlash isn’t exactly a consolation prize, this has all the ingredients to steal the show.
The story here runs deeper than WWE. This is senpai vs. kōhai. Asuka debuted back in 2004, years before IYO SKY, and their shared history in Japan adds a layer you can’t manufacture. Asuka has long been seen as the mentor, the superior figure—the one IYO has been chasing.
Now, it feels like that dynamic is finally being tested on the biggest stage.
There’s a strong case for IYO to win here. She’s one of the most over performers in the entire company right now, and momentum is on her side. But if this truly is the beginning of Asuka’s final run, there’s a different kind of story to tell.
A win for Asuka brings everything full circle. It re-establishes her at the top, puts her right back into the title picture, and reminds everyone exactly who she is. Because she’s too good not to be there.
With a card that feels full of predictable outcomes, this is one of the few matches that could genuinely go either way.
Prediction: Asuka

Danhausen & ??? vs. The Miz & Kit Wilson
Danhausen is so over right now that it almost doesn’t matter who his partner is.
The speculation has been everywhere; some obvious choices, some wild ones (we even broke it down too). But the go-home episode of WWE Raw may have dropped the biggest hint yet, saying his partner “loves money.”
That alone narrows things down… or at least makes things more interesting.
Comedy in pro wrestling isn’t for everyone, but this pairing and feud have consistently delivered moments that land. Fans have been laughing, reacting, and staying engaged, and that’s the whole point. Expect more of that here.
There is a case for Miz and Wilson to pick up the win. It would extend the feud and give it room to breathe heading into SummerSlam. But even with that in mind, it’s tough to bet against Danhausen in a moment like this.
After all… he is very nice, very evil.
Prediction: Danhausen

United States Championship: Trick Williams (c) vs. Sami Zayn
This is the lone WrestleMania rematch on the card. But, the outcome feels pretty clear.
There’s just no way Trick Williams drops the title this soon after winning it on that stage. He’s red-hot, and WWE has clearly built this card around viral sensations and rising stars. Trick fits that mold perfectly.
Then there’s the added spotlight. With Lil Yachty in his corner, and the growing connection to Quality Control Music, Trick’s presentation feels bigger than just wrestling right now. The crossover appeal is working, and it’s only elevating him further.
At a certain point, you don’t need overthinking or deep logic.
Trick is the moment, and this is his time to keep building.
Prediction: Trick Williams
