Pro Wrestler of the Month: Io Shirai as a heel on NXT could be very interesting

Read Time:1 Minute, 44 Second

Wrestling, over the past month, has been absolutely insane and has produce many Pro Wrestler of the Month-level performances.

With guys in WWE like Ricochet and new Cruiserweight Champion, Drew Gulak, to the  many killing it in AEW like Jon Moxley, I had options for this month.

However, I chose to go for someone that I feel hasn’t gotten enough love this month, NXT’s Io Shirai.

Shirai has been absolutely killing it since she arrived in NXT, but especially in the last month. She is one of the most consistent wrestlers in the business and every time she gets in the ring, you know she is going to absolutely kill it.

She kicked the match off with an incredible match at TakeOver: XXV against Shayna Baszler. However, there was one match in particular that really made me decide that she should be Pro Wrestler of the Month for June. Last week in NXT, she had a Steel Cage match with Shayna Baszler for the NXT Women’s Championship. The match itself was absolutely stellar and is one of the best NXT TV matches of the year. They really let the women go out there and have a real steel cage match with a few insane spots that women usually aren’t allowed to do.

It was after the match that really set things over the top. Shayna retained her title and Candice LeRae came into the ring to help her up. Shayna then absolutely snapped and beat Candice up in an emphatic heel turn that nobody saw coming. Shirai is a fantastic face, but make sure to tune in to see what she does as a heel on the black and yellow brand.

Not to mention, a program between her and Candice has the potential to be one of the best feuds of the year!
