Al Iaquinta considering retirement: ‘This sh*t’s not worth it’

Al Iaquinta may have made his last walk to the Octagon at UFC 268 on Nov. 6.
The Ultimate Fighter season 15 finalist has been a staple within the 155-pound lightweight division since arriving in the UFC. However, following a tough first-round TKO loss to Bobby Green in Madison Square Garden, that may be it for “Raging Al.”
“Fighting again? I’m thinking that’s it, man, I’m thinking that’s it,” Iaquinta said on his podcast, the Call Me Al Show. “That’s the way to go out. Obviously, you want to go out on a win, but this sh*t’s not worth it, dude. You saw Michael Chandler and Justin Gaethje fight, those guys beat the hell out of each other. That wasn’t worth it.
“To be honest with you, I don’t know – it was the first fight that I really gave up in. He didn’t knock me unconscious, I kind of turned and covered up, I was still conscious and knew what I was doing. I just wanted [out], that was it. I realize that he hit me hard, it probably was not going to be a good night for me. I was not confident in my preparation, my cardio, my wrestling. These guys are training hard, three times a day, two times a day, really hard. My body just can’t hold up to that anymore. This is the first time in my career ever that I gave up in a fight.”
Al Iaquinta (14-7-1) currently rides a three-fight losing streak with defeats to Dan Hooker and Donald Cerrone preceding his encounter with Green which made him 1-4 in his last five. If Iaquinta is truly planning to hang up his gloves, he’ll always be remembered for his big wins against the likes of Jorge Masvidal, Diego Sanchez, Ross Pearson, and Kevin Lee whom he defeated twice.
