Power Slap Heavyweight Championship

Damien “The Bell” Dibbell (c) vs. Wes “The Boom” Mena (3)

“The Bell” is the longest reigning Power Slap champion with three title defenses already under his belt. Having started this sport at under 21 years of age, to becoming the youngest champion and defending against the top of the division, Dibbell has already begun to create a strong legacy. But his legacy will be tested on Friday, July 18th, as he faces yet another scary contender.

Wes “The Boom” Mena is a powerful striker. The 34-year-old is a high-profile bodyguard for professional athletes and brings that energy to the stage. His power is his greatest asset, as he has finished two of his last three matches. In addition to the power, Mena was able to showcase his chin and toughness as he won a close decision against Aaron Turner in his last matchup. Now the number three contender in the world, Mena has the biggest opportunity of his young career.

This matchup will likely be determined quickly. Despite Dibbell has never being dropped, and he has already been through a few wars. He has come out victorious in a number of them. But with massive hands, big power, and proven durability, you can never count the champion out. For Mena, one shot is all it takes, but he must prepare to eat equally as violent shots back.

This match features two large men, so do not expect this match to go long. They will throw and utilize a big whip action with their arms to generate their power. Dibbell has gone five rounds with the top strikers before, which provides him with the experience advantage; despite being significantly younger. In this match, look for Mena to land a powerful strike or two, but for Dibbell’s strength to be no match. The championship rounds may not be needed.

Prediction: Damien Dibbell via KO/TKO

Power Slap Lightweight Championship

Robert “The Real Deal” Trujillo (c) vs. Dakota “Maritime Menace” McGregor (2) II

The co-main event features the final of a trio of rematches as the defending lightweight champion Robert Trujillo returns. The MMA prospect and multiple-time Power Slap coach has been seeking his return to the Power Slap stage. With the lightweight division being the newest in Power Slap, the rankings are still being developed. With that, a fresh matchup was difficult to find, so why not rebook what was already a five-round war?

Facing Trujillo is Dakota McGregor. The tall Canadian striker stood out from the rest of the pack on Power Slap: Road to the Title, Season 3. Packing a lot of power in his wiry frame allows McGregor to deliver an emphatic slap. In this first match, McGregor was the opening striker and was not able to take advantage. Both he and Trujillo landed their first strike but neither man created much damage as the size discrepancy led to the two men struggling with their range.

Throughout the five-round match, the momentum quickly swung in the direction of the current champ. Trujillo ate McGregor’s second strike and returned with a massive one of his own, dropping the challenger. After displaying his toughness and determination, McGregor returned and continued throwing strong strikes while Trujillo continuously showcased his chin, never looking phased. Every shot Trujillo landed got a reaction and he dropped McGregor twice.

Despite being an entertaining and violent match, it was quite lopsided. Trujillo was a step ahead and showcased a great blend of Power and fortitude. Both men avoided fouls and were able to showcase the future of the lightweight division. Despite this match occurring just four months ago, the rematch is highly anticipated as this division continues to grow.

The difference in this match may just be the experience factor. Trujillo has seen what his slap can do to McGregor while also knowing he can withstand the power. This should allow Trujillo to open up a little more this time. If Trujillo can strike first this time, that should increase his chances of finding a finish in this rematch.

Prediction: Robert Trujillo via KO/TKO
